Beginning Sunday, April 9 Broward County began to experience torrential downpours. On Wednesday, an astounding 26 inches of rain fell in Fort Lauderdale, with most of that falling in just seven hours. As a result, many homes and businesses were affected by the flooding and need cleanup and assistance. Initially, we thought only 300 homes would need to be ‘mudded out’ (removing the mud and debris from damaged homes) but after further assessment, it is closer to 2,000 homes in need of this work.
Please pray for those affected by the flooding and the first responders on the ground right now—we’re better together!
Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale will serve as the initial logistical coordinator for relief team volunteers. Relief teams are being organized to help those who are in need. As our on-the-ground partners Samaritan’s Purse complete their damage assessments and establish a support hub, we’ll need teams of able-bodied volunteers to help with manual labor and flooding relief efforts.
