Biblical Counseling

About Biblical Counseling

Calvary Chapel exists to meet the spiritual, emotional, and relational needs of the Calvary Chapel family and our South Florida Community. Our Biblical Counseling Ministry is available to everyone who is searching for counseling services. We ensure that all of our volunteer counselors meet the qualifications needed to be lay biblical counselors, but they are not licensed therapists.

Lay Biblical Counseling

A lay biblical counselor is an individual who will be able to help guide you as you cope with personal, relational, and spiritual issues by using God’s Word as the foundation. This counselor is not considered a licensed therapist as they have not met the training, education, or credential requirements to be a professional counselor, but has undergone the training required for the Lay Counseling Certificate Program.

Immediate/Urgent Counseling

If you’re in need of biblically-based help with an immediate crisis, please call 954-977-9673 or come to our church office during regular church business hours and we’ll have someone meet with you.

FAQs

What is Christian counseling?

It’s a session facilitated by a lay biblical counselor who assists in the healing process and helps others get unstuck so they can move forward on the path to spiritual maturity and social-emotional health.

How do I know if I need counseling?

Counseling can help at any point in your life. When life is going well, you may want help examining your heart and mind for blind spots or growth opportunities. You can also begin counseling if you’re going through a difficult time or a season of suffering you need help navigating. Some experiences in your life calls for a higher level of care and using specialized or trained professionals can bring helpful insight and support. If you feel you need more help than we can offer, we can refer you to a specialist in the area.

If you have thoughts of harming yourself or others, please immediately call 911 or the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255.

Shouldn’t I be able to deal with my problems through friends and family or by reading my Bible?

There are multiple avenues God uses for support and healing when we suffer. Healthy relationships and knowing God through the Scriptures are necessities for care, change, and growth. However, there may be times when it’s best to seek those who are trained and skilled in caring for your soul more deeply as they help you connect your current situation to God’s truths. God has gifted and called these specific individuals to help advance His kingdom through this effort.

I am having trouble in my marriage. Should we see a marriage counselor or do individual counseling first?

Marriage counseling can help identify unhealthy or sinful patterns originating from you or your spouse that can negatively impact your marriage. A few examples would be:

  •       Communication issues
  •       Parenting differences
  •       Emotional disconnection or escalation
  •       Fear of intimacy (emotional or physical)

If your marriage is safe, a good start would be seeing one of our couple counselors or even request a marriage mentor.
