Let the Light In: Week Two Study Guide

In week two of “Let the Light In,” a special, four-week Christmas study, this study guide invites us to consider what happens in us when we see Jesus for who He truly is!

Below, you’ll find some key discussion points to reflect on and questions to consider on your own, with your family, or in your circle of friends.

Memory Verse of the Week: Luke 2:30–32 (NLT)

“I have seen your salvation, which you have prepared for all people. He is a light to reveal God to the nations, and he is the glory of your people Israel!”

Something to Think About: Have you ever “seen the light” on something? Maybe you had some wrong information or learned something completely new and your eyes were opened to a whole new and amazing thing! Maybe you discovered a much easier and more effective way to fill out a certain report at work, learned what the little circle in a slotted spoon is for, or rewatched a movie and realized how good it actually is. Whatever it is, you saw the light and it changed your life in some way.

“One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!”—John 9:25 (NIV)

Christmas is all about revelation—it’s the moment God revealed Himself to the world and revealed His plan of salvation for all humanity in the person of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Word incarnate, the Immanuel (“God with us”)!

Throughout the story of Jesus’ birth in Luke 1 and 2 and Matthew 1 and 2, we see the Lord reveal Himself and lead people to Himself by the power of the Holy Spirit—from Zechariah to Mary to Joseph to the shepherds and wise men to Simeon and Anna. And the same is true today, because God delights in revealing His truth, His grace, and His power in order to draw people to salvation through Jesus.

Seeing the Light: What can we learn about how God reveals Himself to us from the Christmas story?

  • Revelation begins with the Spirit of God.
  • Revelation leads to peace.
  • Revelation is seeing Jesus for who He really is.
  • Jesus reveals what’s in us.

Reflection Question 1: God wants to reveal more of Himself to you each and every day. In what ways can you make yourself more available to the revelation of the Spirit in your life?

Reflection Question 2: What steps can you take this week to help others in your community and sphere of influence to let the light of Jesus into their lives?

This Week: Spend time praying this week for the Lord to reveal what He wants to do in your life this Christmas!

In our next study, we’ll continue our special look at the Christmas story as we discover the power of the light of Jesus in our lives and world!
