Married Couple Date Night Ideas July 2018

Better Together

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone?”—Ecclesiastes 4:9-11 (NIV)

What comes to mind when you read the words “better together”? Maybe it’s cookies and milk, peanut butter and jelly, or Netflix and a rainy day. All of these things are good in and by themselves, but when paired together they can become truly great.

Just like in marriage, when we’re paired with someone, we can grow into something great together. Marriage teaches us a lot about ourselves and how to put someone else first—becoming truly selfless. It shows us how to learn to work as a team, to be aware when our partner falls and need us to help them up. And it also helps us to learn how to build a life of combined dreams, goals, and hopes that will hopefully not only change our lives but the lives of those arounds us as well.

This month, the Married Couples Ministry would like to challenge you to become “better together.” With the summer here, we hope you take some opportunities to labor together and build each other up.

Here are some date night ideas for you this month!

Idea 1: Go Star Gazing
There’s nothing more romantic than stargazing with your beloved. This one will take some planning but is sure to be worth all the work. With this date, you”ll have to make sure the skies are clear with no moonlight. You may want to download Google Sky to help plan out your date. Did you know the best time to see the stars is at 3am? So, go ahead and take a little nap beforehand. This is an incredible opportunity to experience God’s creation at its best. When you’re finished stargazing, find a 24-hour diner and enjoy an early breakfast together.

Idea 2: Serve Your Community
Studies have shown that couples that serve together experience a deep bonding experience within their marriage. Why not spend the day serving your community whether it be cleaning up at your local park, volunteering at a charity event, or just helping an elderly couple get their gardening done. After you’re done, treat yourselves to a good dinner at your favorite restaurant. Spend the evening sharing your favorite moments from the day and what you learned as you helped serve your community in becoming better.

Idea 3: Share an Adventure
If you’re one of those couples that like to do daring things, then you’ll enjoy this challenge. There’s nothing more exciting than getting out of your comfort zone! Plan a day to go skydiving, zip lining, or bungee jumping. This will help you to overcome your fears as you lean on the support of your beloved by your side cheering you on. After you’re done, celebrate by going out for ice cream, coffee, or by eating your favorite meal. This date will be the one you’ll talk about for many years to come!

We want to hear from you! E-mail about your date night story! Share your dates on social media by tagging your photos with #DateNightStories to encourage other couples with what the Lord is doing in your marriage!
