Heavenly Citizenship

“Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God.”—Ephesians 2:19 (NKJV)
Our citizenship is in heaven. That truth is not hard to believe. Look around you: what you see is a fallen world, which is not what the Lord intended for His beloved children. So what happened? And why is it that at every turn, some of us are looking for signs to point us home?
If you are a Christian, the Bible contains several references that show you whose you are and where you belong. Without this assurance, you may feel disconnected, meaningless, and hopeless. But the Lord assures you that you don’t need to feel this way.
Start from the beginning in the Book of Genesis and read the way in which the Lord created you for a purpose, which is for you to live forever in a spiritual house—a world beyond this earth. Don’t stop there. Go to Revelation, the last book of the Bible, which signifies God’s authority over all creation and history and proclaims Jesus’ ultimate victory over Satan.
From the beginning to the end, the Lord—the Alpha and Omega, the first and the last— has controlled everything. He is in charge at this moment; He always has been, and He always will be. Most unbelievers still confuse the chain of events that transpired at the beginning of time, charging believers with walking on crutches of ancient beliefs, rituals, and laws. They don’t believe what happened in the Garden of Eden, when Satan, a power-hungry fallen angel consumed with jealousy toward God’s children, trespassed and made us strangers in our own home—the one that God had created for us.
But why did God leave us here? One of the reasons God left us on earth was for us to be a neon sign of life to those who are lost. Before we accepted Christ as our Lord and Savior, we too were foreigners in our own land, desperately looking for signs that showed us our way home. As citizens of heaven, our job is to let the word out that sin and evil will not last forever. God, who holds the keys to heaven firmly in His hands, promises that our place in His house is secured. Jesus Christ will overcome!
