“Behold children are a gift of the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth.”—Psalm 127:3-4 (NASB)
I’m humbled to have had a beautiful, godly mother. Her beauty was both physical and spiritual. She lived to be 75 and has been with Jesus since 2000.
Mom lived by her example. She loved the Lord and showed His love and grace through her everyday life. She became a Christian as a teen and was Spirit-led her whole life.
In God’s kindness, her example helped forge my faith growing up and set me on the right course in life—of which I am forever grateful. Mom gave us a sense of security by her loving, positive influence that allowed the four kids in our family to grow to be who God called us.
On her 70th birthday, we gave her a plaque with an inscription of Proverbs 31: 28-30 (ESV), which says, “Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: ‘Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.’ Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.”
We blessed and honored her because she feared the Lord and was faithful. It was so good to acknowledge her while she was still alive.
Your mother was brought into the world to bring you into the world. Motherhood is a wonderful and powerful calling. She was ordained by God not only to give you life, but to also be an instrument to directly or indirectly bring you to Jesus. Whether your mother is a Christian or not, God called her to be your birth mother, so that in time you would come to know the Savior and fulfill your purpose on earth as a child of God.
If you are a mother or future mother, you have an amazing calling by God to bring life into the world to be used for God’s glory and kingdom; raising your children to love God.
We celebrate and praise our mothers and the calling of motherhood.
