“For God says, ‘At just the right time, I heard you. On the day of salvation, I helped you.’ Indeed, the ‘right time’ is now. Today is the day of salvation.”—2 Corinthians 6:2 (NLT)
Have you ever said or thought to yourself, It’s not the right time? Proposing, getting married, having kids, buying a house, moving, starting a blog or podcast, starting up your own business . . . these are all examples of things people delay because the right time has not yet come. They’ll think to themselves, I’ll do that later when I have more money or when things are less chaotic, or I’ll finally have time for that when I get older.
Sadly, one of the most common things I’ve heard people push to a later date is a relationship with Jesus. I’ve heard people say, “I need to get my life sorted out before I can come to God,” “I need to do some soul searching,” or “I’m not ready yet.” But the apostle Paul tells us, “Indeed, the ‘right time’ is now. Today is the day of salvation.”
In context, Paul is quoting a Messianic prophecy from Isaiah 49:8. That verse was a promise that at the perfect time, according to His perfect will, God would impart salvation through the Messiah.
For people in 2018, as with the people in Paul’s time, that day is today. There is no waiting for a better time, no waiting for a better day. There is no better day to be made right with the God of the universe than today. There is no better moment to receive salvation than now. There is no more perfect time to be made perfect by the blood of Jesus than this time. If you know someone who is at this place, please pray for them. Pray they would experience a moment of clarity, awareness of their immediate need for God, and an urgency to receive Him. Pray about how the Lord can use you to draw them to Him!
For the Christian, this message still carries so much power and weight. Don’t wait until later to address a habitual sin in your life. Confess, repent, and receive the help of God today because the right time is now. Don’t wait for the perfect time to tell your friend about Jesus . . . the right time is now. Don’t wait for your perfect time because your perfect time may never come. Instead heed Paul’s words and realize that God’s time, the right time . . . is now!
DIG: Have you ever put something off because it was not the right time?
DISCOVER: What made the moment you came to know Jesus the right time? Was it because you were at the place in your life where you needed Him more than anything else?
DISPLAY: Consider that no matter where anyone is at any time or place in their life, they need Jesus more than anything else in the universe, so their time is now! With that in mind, if you’ve been putting off sharing the gospel with someone because it wasn’t the right time, or you weren’t ready . . . take the time over the next few days to do so. Pray and ask the Lord for the boldness and the words of life.
