It’s Lit

But the path of the just is like the shining sun, that shines ever brighter unto the perfect day.”—Proverbs 4:18 (NKJV)

We live in a dark, crooked, and perverse generation. Troubling events like mass shootings and the ugliness of humans’ hearts make it seem like darkness is growing more intense. Every day, our city, our country, and the world around us seems to get worse.

Paul writes in 2 Timothy 3:1 that in the last days perilous times will come. As God’s children, we should not be surprised, yet that doesn’t make it any easier watching troubling events in our world.

People are longing for and desperate to have answers for hope and help. You and I have the answer for them.

In Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus is recorded as saying, “You are the light of the world . . . Let you light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:14-16 NKJV).

Our only hope is Christ! Jesus said He is the Light of the world, and He came to give us light. Light is life. He came to give us life . . . a good, joy-filled, abundant life. John 1:4-9 (NKJV) says, “In Him was life, and the life was the light of men . . . light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe. He was not the Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.”

You are the light of the world! For us to be light, we have to walk in the light by knowing God, acting correctly, and living in His power. People are followers, and they will watch you closely. Jesus gives the Christian both a great compliment and a great responsibility when He says that we are the light of the world, because He claimed that title for Himself as He walked this earth.

The world needs you! God created you and placed you here for His glory. Your life and purpose is to reveal Christ to others. Your family, neighbors, fellow workers, and everyone you cross paths with need your light. Those who don’t know the Savior are living in darkness. You may be their only light.

People are desperately lost in this dark world. You can point them to the light by being the light of Christ for them.
