Real Love

Then the Lord said to me, “Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying: ‘Hear the words of this covenant and do them.’”— Jeremiah 11:6 (NKJV)

I remember the people in New Orleans after hurricane Katrina. We watched the news and heard them say over and over that they felt helpless. Their hope was gone and everything they owned was destroyed. Those of us in the rest of the country felt helpless, too. We knew they were going through an awful time, but we just didn’t know how to get them out. We didn’t know how to help them.

Now think of people from a spiritual perspective. There are millions of people with no hope for eternity. God created us with a desire for spiritual healing. Most everyone you meet wants to fill that void in their hearts that only God can fill. Some people use destructive things to attempt to fill the void, while others just fill it with a busy life. But only God can fill the void in our hearts with that true satisfaction everyone craves. As God brings people into our lives who are looking for hope and asking for help, we are able to help them by pointing them to Christ!

So, how do we share the love of Christ with people on a daily basis? We need to encourage them, lend a helping hand when needed, and share God’s plan of salvation with them.

We are often afraid to share Christ with others because we’re afraid to offend them. We need to be afraid of not sharing the truth that can give them eternal life! We need to believe that God can take their life and turn it into one of great meaning and joy.

My daughter Charlotte once shared the gospel with our next door neighbor. She was only 10 years old and he was 11. Much to her frustration, the little boy just wasn’t buying the whole “born again” thing. She came storming into the house, wrote out the sinners pray on a piece of paper, and went back outside. She handed the paper to the boy and said, “Just read it you idiot!” She was definitely passionate about sharing the gospel, she just needed a little more love.

Today, in a loving way, proclaim the words of Christ with someone—it is their only hope.
