“But as for me, I am filled with power—with the Spirit of the Lord. I am filled with justice and strength to boldly declare Israel's sin and rebellion.”—Micah 3:8 (NLT)
Have you ever seen something on TV documentary, in a movie, on a poster, or in an article or book that totally inspired you? Maybe you’ve watched a documentary about kids being sold as sex slaves and it inspired you to join the movement to end human trafficking. Maybe you read an article that helped motivate you to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Maybe you watched a movie about firefighters or doctors and decided that you want to do that for the rest of your life. For a young Bruce Wayne, it was a TV show about a vigilante hero named the Grey Ghost that helped shape his future as Batman.
What I’m trying to say is that inspiration comes from all sorts of places. But there is no greater source of inspiration for every aspect of our lives than God Himself! I truly believe that a passion for justice, a drive to save lives as a firefighter or doctor, a desire to give back to kids in crisis . . . all of this comes from the Lord’s inspiration and His image in us! I believe it is us fulfilling what we were created for. And I think this applies to everyone, not just believers. I believe God uses our passions, interests, and personalities to move us to where He has purposed us and to help us come to know Him.
For the believer; however, the concept of inspiration goes way deeper than passions and career decisions. You see, we have the Spirit of God in us. Like Micah, we can say we are “filled with power—with the Spirit of the Lord.” We have the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead living in us, inspiring us, guiding us, directing all of our decisions, shaping all of our thoughts and desires, empowering and equipping us with gifts and talents for service. Like Jonah, He is speaking His Word into our hearts so we may share it with others. He inspires us to influence others with our actions, attitudes, and lifestyle, and He changes lives through us by the power of the gospel of Jesus.
Today, my friends I want to encourage you to seek the Lord’s inspiration. When you wake up each morning, pray and ask Him to inspire you, to move you to accomplish His will and serve His great purpose. Ask Him to inspire you in unique ways and use you to inspire others!
