“For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.”—Romans 14:17 (NKJV)
Often people ask, “Where did I come from, and what is my purpose?” You were created to become a child of the King of heaven and enjoy a personal and forever relationship with the One who loves you. This earthly life is a small fraction of eternity that awaits you. Heaven is your real home.
When you awoke this morning, what were your first thoughts? Did they have to do with your first cup of coffee, a work situation, school projects, your household “to-do” lists, or family challenges? Or were your first thoughts of the beauty of the Lord in your life and His love and grace toward you? Did you consciously thank Him for waking you up so you could marvel at His glorious creation?
Jesus gives us glimpses about the kingdom of God:
In Matthew 25:34, He says the kingdom that is prepared for you is from the foundation of the world. Therefore, your life’s purpose is to prepare yourself for your future heavenly home.
In Luke 17:20-21, Jesus said, “The kingdom of God does not come with observation . . . for indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.”
Before Pilate, Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world” (John 18:36 NKJV). Presently, we live in the kingdom of this world which is broken by sin, evil, pain, sorrow, and death. The kingdom of heaven is Jesus the King who sits upon His glorious throne. His kingdom is filled with righteousness, peace, and joy.
Jesus came to deliver us from the kingdom of this world to give us His kingdom.
1. Recognize your privilege to be a child of the King and that He lives within you by His Spirit for you to enjoy Him and His blessings.
2. Every day is preparation to live as a kingdom child and to be with Him.
3. The kingdom life is an abundant life.
4. Psalm 16:11 (NKJV) gives a beautiful description: “You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”
There are so many people who do not have a relationship with Jesus. As believers, we are to be His kingdom representatives to those who do not know Him. We are given today to have divine appointments to show others the love of Christ and to point them to the Savior.
DIG: A.W. Tozer said, “We have such a short time to prepare for a such long time.” What do you think that means?
DISCOVER: What does, “The kingdom of God is within you” mean to you?
