Hurricane Disaster Relief

With so many people affected by both Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria, the family of Calvary Chapel is banding together to show and share the love of Christ by providing assistance to those in need.

Here are just some of the ways you can get involved and be part of the solution.

GO: Help with Relief Efforts in Puerto Rico

As we have seen on the news, Hurricane Maria has caused considerable damage in Puerto Rico. Here's how you can get involved and make a difference:

Puerto Rico Donations

Our goal is to donate and deliver much needed items to the people of Puerto Rico. The first shipment went out on Friday, September 29, and we will continually send things out in the weeks and months to come. All donations can be dropped off in our FoodShare bins or at Connection Point at all of our campuses.

Here are the specific items we are asking for at this time:

  • Large Bags of Rice
  • Canned Beans
  • Canned Chicken/Meats
  • Cases of Water
  • Pasta
  • Diapers & Wipes
  • Baby Formula
  • New Dual Fuel Generators
  • Inverters
  • Tarps
  • Batteries
  • Paper/Plastic supplies (plates, cups, napkins, plastic utensils, toilet paper)
  • Garbage bags
  • Bed netting (to protect from mosquitos)
  • Bug spray

GO: Day Trips to Key West with Samaritan’s Purse

Now Through November 15 (Excluding Sundays)

Throughout October and November, Calvary will partner with Samaritan’s Purse in organizing and sending out Disaster Relief Teams to serve those affected in the Keys. Through this partnership, we have the opportunity to be the tangible hands and feet of Christ as we serve the people in this community!

Volunteer/Serve on a Disaster Relief Team

 

Sign up to serve on a day trip to the Keys. Details are as follows:

  • Private jets will be provided by Samaritan’s Purse.
  • Volunteers must be an adult 18 years or older.
  • The trip is free, but each volunteer MUST bring their own lunch/snacks.
  • We will serve the community with their cleanup efforts. It will be a hot and challenging day, full of physical labor. Therefore, please only register if you are ABLE to work in these conditions.
  • The trip limit is 100 people per day.

STEP 1 – Sign the waiver and read the pre-trip information form. Each volunteer MUST sign the Adult Volunteer Release and Waiver of Liability form and fully read the Day Volunteer Pre-Trip Information form. The Day Volunteer Pre-Trip Information form provides a list of what each volunteer will need to bring, including a bagged lunch and snacks. Samaritan’s Purse will provide water and Powerade.

STEP 2 – Sign up for a trip by sending an e-mail: Anyone interested in serving must e-mail SPKeyWest@Samaritan.org with the following information:

  • Name (must match a valid photo ID)
  • Date of Birth
  • E-mail Address
  • Phone Number
  • Church Name
  • Date You Wish to Serve
  • Weight (This is for our pilots to manage weight distribution.)

Reservations will be confirmed by Samaritan’s Purse via e-mail. You are not confirmed to go until you receive your confirmation e-mail. Limit 100 people per day. Due to an overwhelming response from volunteers to serve, there may be a delay in receiving a response. Confirmation emails may come the day before your flight is booked.

You must register at least 24 hours prior to your preferred date, however, the earlier you register the better opportunity you will have to serve on your preferred date.

Each person who registers must receive a confirmation e-mail with their assigned date. No one is confirmed until they receive this confirmation from Samaritan’s Purse (this is your ticket to board the flight).

STEP 3 – Show up the day of the trip with your signed waiver form, e-mail confirmation, and other items listed above: You must arrive at 6:15am on your scheduled travel date at Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale. Park/meet the team in the parking lot just east of the turf football field. Enter the main gate off of Cypress Road and make your first left. We will depart by shuttle at 6:30am to Banyan Air (across the street from Calvary) and return to the church property by 6pm. NOTE: You may not park at Banyan Air. You must park/meet at Calvary and ride the shuttle over. You must arrive on time in order to not miss the shuttle at 6:30am.

Volunteers must present their e-mail confirmation and signed Adult Volunteer Release and Waiver of Liability form before boarding the flight. Thank you for your patience and heart to serve!

As we send out teams to support different areas and communities in need, we are accepting the following donations items:

  • Non-perishable food
  • Water
  • Tarps
  • Yard tools (shovels, cutters, rakes, work gloves, etc.)
  • Hygiene items
  • First aid kits

Note: We are NOT collecting clothing. Please drop off items at the Connection Point.
