“For when they say, ‘Peace and safety!’ then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.”—1 Thessalonians 5:3 (NKJV)
There are few things that change the entire outlook of your life like finding out you are going to be a parent. This October, my wife and I found out we were expecting our first child. We were overcome with emotions like excitement and anticipation, but we also experienced fear and anxiety because of the unknown.
“We have never been parents before . . . Are we qualified for this? How are we going to know how to take care of a child? I’ve never even changed a diaper before! Lord help us!”
In the midst of the unknown, I continued to find peace and assurance in God’s Word. I realized that my wife’s pregnancy, the birth of our son, and even our child’s health were in God’s hands. No matter what, I know that God is in control.
In life, there are many things that are unknown. But there is one thing we can be certain of: our salvation. Romans 10:9 (NKJV) says, “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” We can know that we are going to heaven one day!
Paul describes the day of the Lord in 1 Thessalonians 5:3 as “sudden.” This means that in a moment, Jesus will be back for His bride: the Church. The question is: When Jesus returns to claim His own, is He coming for you?
In the midst of the unknowns of life, you can be certain that Jesus will come for you one day. All it takes is admitting that you are a sinner, believing that Jesus Christ is Lord, and committing your life to follow Him.
In John 16, Jesus describes His return as joyful. In a split second, the pain of life will be gone and we will be face to face with our Creator. That is the most joyful place we can ever be!
My prayer is that if you have not given your life to Jesus, you will do just that today! Do not delay. Tomorrow is not promised. Jesus could come back at any time! Get right with God today and experience the joy that comes from knowing Him and being certain of your eternal destiny.
