Weekend Message Takeaway: “I AM the Resurrection and the Life”

A Personal Look at the Resurrection

The power of death is undeniable. It’s the destiny of every person, even the greatest among us. The fact is we are no match for death, but the story of Easter shows us beyond a doubt that death is no match for Jesus, the author of life!

This Easter weekend, we got to see just how personal resurrection is, not just as a historical truth or theological concept, but as a personal experience God wants for all of us. In this message, Pastor Doug shared from John 11, where Jesus tells us that in Him we can experience resurrection and life every single day!

For the Note Takers

Let’s recap some of the key talking points from Pastor Doug’s teaching this weekend:

The Past (John 11:17–27): Martha brings up the past, saying, “If you had been here.” We all have “What if” moments in life—moments where we wonder how things “could of”, “should of” been. Sometimes, our past becomes a tangled mess, like a ball of yarn . . . but when we have Jesus, He can untangle and bring new life (resurrect) to our mess.

The Future (John 11:24): Martha’s statement concerning the future implies she knew the truth, but didn’t know if Jesus would show up at that moment for her personally. Have you ever felt this way? Intellectually, and even intimately, you know that one day you’ll experience the joy of heaven and the presence of Christ, but you just aren’t experiencing His power and peace today—you’re not sure if He is going to show up in your life here and now.

The Present (John 11:25–26): While Martha spoke theologically of a future hope, Jesus spoke to her—and us—personally, for her present situation. He said, “I am the resurrection and the life.” Resurrection stood there in front of her; life was right there. And Jesus asked her, “Do you believe this?” Church, we don’t have to live stuck in the past or future . . . God’s best gifts are for NOW!

Quote to Remember: Embracing an ending opens up a new future. But Jesus doesn’t want us to live in between two unmet longings; He wants redemption and hope to be present realities. Jesus wants to untangle your past AND pull the hope of the future into your present, because eternal life can start now!—Pastor Doug Sauder

FEATURED ARTICLE: SO THE RESURRECTION HAPPENED . . . NOW WHAT?
We all know the story of Jesus. The Son of God came to earth, lived a perfect, sinless life, died on the cross for our sins, resurrected on the third day, and then ascended to heaven. And we know that in order to be saved, we must receive Him into our lives . . . but so often we don't know what to do next! In this week's featured blog, Communications Minister Danny Saavedra explains what happened 2,000 years ago in the aftermath of Jesus' resurrection and ascension and what that means for us today. A LOOK AHEAD
This Wednesday, Hollywood campus Pastor Fidel Gomez will teach from 1 Samuel 26, where David once again had the opportunity to kill Saul, but didn’t. Find out why David believed that no one “can remain innocent after attacking the Lord’s anointed one,” and what that means for us in our interactions with one another.

This weekend, we’ll continue our study through the Gospel of John as Boynton campus Pastor Duane Roberts teaches a powerful message from John 7:1–36. In this teaching, we’ll see Jesus teaching at the temple and answering questions about Himself, His authority, and where He comes from.
