Share the Love, Goodness of Christ
“And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, ‘Which commandment is the most important of all?’ Jesus answered, ‘The most important is, “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” The second is this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” There is no other commandment greater than these.”—Mark 12:28-31 (ESV)
It feels like we’re living in a time where the world is no longer secure, safe, or stable. Many of us are confined to our homes and somewhat disconnected from our family and friends, and even from our community. Times like these can bring a sense of fear or feelings of isolation. Not knowing where we can turn to or what to lean on is unsettling, causing us to want to throw our hands up in the air and give up. But there is hope!
One thing we can rest on and know with confidence is that our heavenly Father will never leave nor forsake us. His promises are true yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
The Bible says the greatest commandment is to love our God with all our heart, soul, and mind. With this love comes peace and comfort, and an understanding that He has everything under control. With Jesus as our firm foundation, nothing around us will move us or separate us from His love and protection.
The second greatest commandment is to love your neighbor as yourself. With the love of our God in our hearts, we can step boldly out of our comfort zone to share the love of Christ with those around us. And with the world feeling uncertain, is there a better time to share His love and serve others in need?
Loving like Christ can be a refreshing cold glass of water to someone who is thirsty for love and a kind word. We’re in this together sharing this space, let’s bring the world hope, love, and kindness by sharing the goodness of God to our neighbors.
This month, the Married Couples Ministry would like to partner with you to help you share the love and goodness of Christ with others.
Date Night Ideas for April
Challenge 1: Lawn Service
Here’s an opportunity for you and your spouse to serve the elderly or the single parents in your neighborhood. How about mowing their lawns and taking care of their yard together? This will keep you in that safe social distance and still allow you to bless those who are the most vulnerable during this time.
Challenge 2: Techie Double Date
With social distancing being practiced, it doesn’t mean you still can’t plan a double date night with your closest or newest friends. With technology, you can still enjoy a date night on Facetime, Zoom, or Google Hangouts! Start by setting a time for everyone to log on, cook your favorite meal, and enjoy the evening together. The best thing about it is that you only have to cook and clean for two!
Challenge 3: Chat for Two!
Sometimes people just need to hear a friendly voice to get their spirits up. A kind word, a voice of reason . . . A simple group chat could do the trick! Whether it’s via a phone call, Facetime, or text, getting connected will do wonders for someone who needs to feel loved and not forgotten.
