The Miracle of a Resurrected Life

If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit.”—Romans 8:11 (NIV)

In John 11, we see Jesus do an amazing work. He brings Lazarus back from the dead. Resurrection! Jesus shows His power over death, His power to give life, to restore life, to breathe new life into a seemingly hopeless, irreversible, dead place. And here’s the amazing thing for us today, just like Jesus says to Lazarus in verse 43, “Lazarus, come out!” and the dead man came out of the grave, He wants to do the same with every area of your life! He wants the rivers of living water to flow freely through every pathway of your soul.

Do you have any skeletons in your closet? Are there areas of deadness and decay that are bringing a foul stench of bitterness, resentment, and disillusionment in your heart? He wants to bring resurrection to those dry bones and breathe life into them once again. Each and every one of us has areas in our lives that are as dead as Lazarus, areas we never allow to see the light of day because they are buried. And we live with these dry bones in the ground beneath our feet every day, sometimes for years. Often, we keep these areas hidden out of fear of what people might say. We feel ashamed, so we carry that deadness around with us.

But look at what happens when we bring those dead and broken areas of our lives to Jesus. He speaks resurrection life over them and restores the most broken parts of our souls. What the enemy deceives us into keeping hidden, God is able to breathe new life into simply by us opening those areas up to Him and having His truth spoken over them.

What skeleton is buried in your soul? Is it crippling debt or a broken relationship with a close family member, maybe a parent? Is it addiction, sexual brokenness, or trauma from your past? Jesus is the answer!

Whatever your hurt, habit, or hang up, whatever area of your life is lying in a grave, Jesus is the answer and He wants to breathe life into it so you can walk in His resurrection victory right now, today.

You don’t have to walk around with the stench of death following you around anymore. You can walk in the sweet aroma of resurrection life because “if the Spirit of Him who raised Christ from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit” (Romans 8:11 NIV).

And when that happens, when you walk in a resurrected life, when He breathes new life into your areas of deadness, you become Lazarus—you become a walking, talking miracle who displays the power of God to restore that which was broken and redeem that which was lost.

Our lives can be used “for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it” (John 11:4 NASB).
