The Power of a Mentoring Couple
“And even when I am old and gray, O God, do not forsake me, Until I declare Your strength to this generation, Your power to all who are to come.”—Psalm 71:18 (NASB)
Jesus had a wonderful, intimate relationship with His disciples. During His three-year ministry on earth, not only did He minister, heal, feed, and love all the people who received Him, but He also mentored His disciples—building them up and preparing them for ministry.
As married couples, we can glean vital lessons on how to mentor other couples just as Jesus mentored His disciples! Mentoring other couples should not be taken lightly. It requires a couple to come out of themselves and do life with another couple that needs both spiritual and practical marriage guidance.
One lesson we can learn from Jesus is how He saw His disciples as friends before He saw them as disciples. As you and your spouse mentor another couple with an authentic and loving spirit, you’ll have the opportunity to give them a glimpse of God’s goodness and His love for the body of Christ. You’ll also see the rewards of friendship blossom into something that inspires and attracts others to want to experience the same thing!
So, if you’ve never mentored another married couple, be encouraged as it’s a journey that you won’t regret or soon forget. On the contrary! You’ll probably wonder why you didn’t do it sooner.
This month, the Married Couples Ministry would like to partner with you so you can help another couple be a better “us.”
Date Night Ideas for March
Challenge 1: BYOYB (Bring Your Own Yearbook)
Invite some friends over and have them bring their yearbooks. You’ll spend the evening laughing at each other’s haircut styles and fashion mishaps. This opens up opportunities for great conversation about your lives and what it was like to live without the internet.
Challenge 2: Bury the Hatchet
Looking to do something new with a group of friends? How about axe throwing? It’s a cool and fun way to challenge each other in a game, while showing your humorous and playful side. And if you had a stressful day, what a better way to relieve your stress!
Challenge 3: Book Club
Reading a good book is fun! So, how about starting a book club and inviting other couples to join in? You can take turns meeting at a coffeeshop or at each other’s homes, where you can discuss the book and share your thoughts and insights.
