The Power of Abiding Love
“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.”—John 15:9-12 (ESV)
It’s every couples’ dream to have a marriage that’s built on true love. The desire to be loved and to love runs deep within us. It’s what drives our hearts and wills to find it and capture it.
But, what is true love? Is it what we see on romantic movies or read in romance novels? Oftentimes, the image that we see in our minds is not of a real couple; but rather, an ideal image that does not exist.
According to the Bible, love is a fruit that we bear when we are in a relationship with our Heavenly Father. And that love pours over into our lives to those around us. When you look at the above verse, interestingly, the word abide is one of the many fruits of love. To abide means, “to rest, to dwell, to remain.”
Imagine having a love for our spouses that’s not only passionate, but also restful. After a hard day’s work, we should be able to go home and find rest in the arms of our beloved. Our first desire as a disciple of Christ is to abide in His love, so that we can bear good fruit. We should aspire the same for our marriages, so that we can have true love and feel true joy.
This month, the Married Couples Ministry would like to partner with you so you can build a stronger and more loving marriage.
In our effort to reduce the divorce rate and strengthen marriages in our community, Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale has partnered with Live the Life to offer a Marriage Initiative Seminar entitled “RECL(AIM).” This two-day marriage workshop uses the Adventures in Marriage curriculum and provides a wonderful opportunity for Calvary marriage coaches to establish a relationship with couples in need of mentorship. Prayerfully partner with us and invite an unchurched family member, friend, neighbor or coworker.
