How to Build a Real, Rock-Solid, Happy Home
“By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.”—Proverbs 24:3-4 (ESV)
As I walk through my neighborhood, I often find myself looking at my neighbors’ houses, thinking and wondering, Are these families happy? Are these homes filled with love and understanding? Or, is it all just a facade? Oftentimes, things are not what they seem. So, I ask you: If someone was to pass by your home, what would they see?
The Bible says that if a house is built on wisdom and understanding the rooms will be filled with treasures. Wisdom brings understanding and understanding brings knowledge—key tools needed to build a real, rock-solid, happy home.
Our homes need to be founded on the Lord Jesus Christ. He is that rock, that refuge, that fortress that can withstand life’s storms when they come crashing in. So, go ahead. Windex your windows and let your neighbors see the real treasures in your home.
This month the Married Couples Ministry would like to partner with you to help you build your house on wisdom and understanding.
Challenge #1 – Build a Gingerbread House
Looking to do something fun and on a budget? You’ll love this! Build a gingerbread house together. If you’re the competitive type, try building your own individual houses and post them on Instagram to see who gets the most votes. After you’re done, spend the rest of your evening watching your favorite Christmas movie and enjoying your favorite snack and beverage.
Challenge #2 – Go Ice Skating
Dreaming of a white Christmas? Sometimes South Florida’s sunny weather can make it hard for us to get in to the Christmas season. So, here’s an idea to help you get into the Christmas spirit. Spend the evening ice skating with your beloved, while also enjoying hot chocolate and popcorn. This will help take the Grinch out of you and allow the Christmas spirit in!
Challenge #3 – Go on a Christmas Light Scavenger Hunt
This date night requires no dressing up, no make-up, and no heels. Just your favorite PJ’s! Hop into your car and go driving around your city or neighborhood looking at Christmas lights. Bring your favorite hot beverage and snacks and enjoy the wonder and beauty of the Christmas season!
We want to hear from you! E-mail MarriedCouples@CalvaryFTL.org about your date night story! Share your dates on social media by tagging your photos with #SoFloDateNight to encourage other couples with what the Lord is doing in your marriage!
