Weekend Message Takeaway: “Going After the One”

This past weekend, we concluded our second of two special weekends as we celebrated what the Lord has done, is doing, and will do here at Calvary through Vision 2023. In this message, Pastor Doug Sauder shared what it means to go all in, why it’s important that each of us go after “the one,” and how we can all get in the story and be part of this amazing gospel movement that’s taking place in our region.

FOR THE NOTE TAKERS
Let’s recap some of the key talking points from Pastor Doug’s message this weekend:

Vision matters. Without a vision, people perish. Vision is all about what could and should be. We need it . . . but if it’s not accompanied by action then it’s pointless.

  • Action without vision leads to empty, meaningless striving.
  • Vision without action is just a dream, but nothing changes.
  • Vision combined with action can change the world!

The Mission: Our mission is clear: to make disciples of all nations. God fills us with His Spirit and then calls us to fill the world with His love and grace so others can come to know Him.

We carry this message of redemption and salvation within us, but if we don’t do anything with it, how will people receive it? Romans 10:14–15 (NLT, emphasis added) says, “But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, ‘How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!’”

How will anyone go and tell people about Jesus without being sent? Friends, we have all been sent! John 20:21 (NIV) says, “As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” Our Lord and Savior, our King and Redeemer, Jesus Christ, has sent us, His disciples, into the world to make disciples (Matthew 28:19–20). He has sent us to take the gospel to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8) and to preach the gospel to all creation (Mark 16:15). We are charged with carrying this gospel movement that has been going for 2,000 years, so let’s not sit around thinking we’re an audience who simply comes to church to be encouraged and to feel good. No! We are not an audience, we are an army that is being sent to take ground for the gospel. We don’t come to church, we are the Church! We’re world-changers who carry the same power that raised Christ from the dead within us. And we carry this power of resurrection so that, as Christ’s ambassadors, we can by the work of the Spirit lead others to faith in Him.

You don’t need Bible college training to do this. Like the woman at the well, who immediately went into her town to tell people about Jesus, you just need to tell people the good news that Jesus loves them, died for them, and can change their lives and hearts in ways they never thought possible. Like the blind man in John 9:25 (NIV), you don’t need to know everything, because he said, “One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!"

The gospel of Jesus has the power to change every heart on its own. All you need to do is be the messenger who delivers this good news.

Quote to Remember: You are the only person on the planet who can fulfill God’s purpose for you!—Pastor Doug Sauder
