Watch our most recent mid-week message here.
A year ago, we cast a vision: to double the number of disciples in our region by the year 2023. You see, we believe God is moving in South Florida, and we want to join Him in that amazing movement.
This past weekend, we kicked off a set of two special weekends as we celebrated what the Lord has done here at Calvary over the last year through Vision 2023. In this message, Pastor Doug Sauder shared some powerful testimonies and God-stories that have come about over the last year and reminded us all of the why behind Vision 2023, what the mission is, and how we can all get in the story and be part of something bigger than any one person or campus.

The Why: The people of our city and region need Jesus. South Florida is full of people who are lost, hurting, hopeless, helpless, and searching. But it doesn’t have to be this way! God wants to use us; He wants us to shine His light into the lives of the people around us, to radiate the light of the gospel, and draw people to His Son so their life-stories may be changed forever. As carriers of the good news, as ambassadors of Christ and ministers of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5), we are responsible for the souls of this generation, of the people in our cities.
And so in light of this, we seek to faithfully walk in what the apostle Paul said about us in Ephesians 1:23 (MSG): “The church is Christ’s body, in which he speaks and acts, by which he fills everything with his presence.” Why? Because this is our burden, our responsibility, and our great honor and privilege.
The What: The mission is clear . . . John 20:21 (NIV) says, “As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” Our Lord and Savior, our King and Redeemer, Jesus Christ, has sent us, His disciples into the world, to make disciples (Matthew 28:19–20). He has sent us to take the gospel to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8) and to preach the gospel to all creation (Mark 16:15). We are charged with carrying this gospel movement that has been going for 2,000 years!
As we looked at our city and prayed over the last few years, we knew we needed a God-given strategy to see a gospel revival take place in our city. So, as we examined the needs and pain points in South Florida, the Lord put eight key areas on our hearts to impact with the hope and healing of the gospel of Jesus. Those eight areas are 1) business engagement, 2) church planting, 3) education, 4) elder care, 5) foster care, 6) marriage and family, 7) next generation, and 8) recovery.
The How: By going after the one! We have believed from the outset of Vision 2023 that if each and every person who calls Calvary Chapel their home church would get in the story and take a step of faith to impact just one person, to do for one person what we would love to do for many, then the impact of this initiative would be far-reaching and extremely powerful.
For some, going after the one would mean one school or after school club as part of the Education Vision Team, for someone else it would be going after one foster family or elder care facility. For you, it may be pouring into young married couples, advocating for those in recovery, or investing in the souls of men and women in the business sector.
Author and theologian Frederick Buechner once said, “The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.”
Where is God calling you? How will you respond? We believe He wants to make year two of Vision 2023 even more fruitful, and we know He wants you to be part of it!
Quote to Remember: The greatest power of the early Church was not in the pulpit, but in the people!—Pastor Doug Sauder
