“May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”—Romans 15:5-6 (ESV)
Would you ever sit on a stool with just two legs? Of course not, because you would fall to the ground so fast and hard you would be hurting for days. But what about a three-legged stool? Now that’s the smartest and safest way to sit. Is it because three is better than two?
In this scenario, three is definitely better if you want to save yourself a trip to the ER. In our marriages, we need to be couples of three, not two. That third support being our heavenly Father, so in times when things get difficult or tough, we know who our true support is.
Sometimes, when we seek advice from our friends, who often typically take our side, it can make our marriages feel unstable. Instead, we ought to seek God’s counsel. He looks at a husband and wife as one and doesn’t show favoritism, always looking to create unity, peace, and harmony within a marriage. The old adage, “Two’s company, three’s a crowd,” doesn’t really apply here. God is love, and He should be made the center of all marriages.
This month, the Married Couples Ministry would like to help you find the support you need through our heavenly Father.
Challenge #1: Playlist Playback
Music makes the heart grow fonder. Especially when it’s your song. How about creating a playlist of the songs you loved when you were dating or of all your favorite bands? Plan an evening at your favorite location and listen to your playlist in the car. Take this time to reminisce over the memories that come to mind.
Challenge #2: Player Ready
This one is for all you gamers. How about a game date night? Plan an evening playing old school video games, like Pac Man or Mario Kart. Have pizza delivered or make your own and spend the evening playing your favorite games. Whoever wins the most games gets a massage!
Challenge #3: Night Ride
It’s September, but still too hot to go outside and play! So, why not plan an evening bike ride at your favorite beach? With the sound of the waves at your backs and the ocean’s cooler breezes hitting your faces, a bike ride at the beach makes for a perfect date night. When you’re done, find a cute restaurant or ice cream parlor, sit, relax, and just enjoy the rest of the evening in each other’s company.
We want to hear from you! E-mail MarriedCouples@CalvaryFTL.org about your date night story! Share your dates on social media by tagging your photos with #SoFloDateNight to encourage other couples with what the Lord is doing in your marriage!
