Building a Solid Foundation
“And now it’s solid
Solid as a rock
That’s what this love is
That’s what we’ve got”
Do you know this song? It was made famous by Ashford & Simpson in the 1980s. For many married couples, it was their marriage anthem.
So, how solid is your marital foundation? Have cracks developed throughout the years? Have you been maintaining it on a regular basis? If we are not mindful and intentional about the upkeep of our foundation, cracks will develop which will cause our foundation to weaken and eventually crumble. This month, the Married Couples Ministry would like to challenge you to do an inspection of your foundation to see if there are any hidden cracks that might need to be repaired.
Maybe you’re aware of some cracks, but you’ve fallen into a sense of false security that they aren’t a big deal. Let’s start the new year by making the cement to repair the cracks that are at risk of weakening our foundation—the foundation that Christ the Rock built on our wedding day.
“Every one therefore that heareth these words of mine, and doeth them, shall be likened unto a wise man, who built his house upon the rock: and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon the rock.”—Matthew 7:24–25 (ASV)
Date Night Ideas for January
Challenge 1: A Romantic Sunrise for Two
There’s nothing more beautiful than watching the sunrise on the beach. Why not have an early morning date on the beach to watch the sunrise? Bring your blankets, favorite hot beverage, and cozy up in each other’s arms while watching the splendor of God’s creation of a new day. Take a few moments reading your favorite Bible verses to each other and praying for your marriage. After that, treat yourselves to a nice big breakfast at your favorite diner!
Challenge 2: Tag Your It!
Who says that date night can’t be fun? Looking for something different to do? How about a game of laser tag? It’s a fun, entertaining activity that combines hide-and-seek and tag with a high-tech twist. It’s a friendly way of competing against each other, while having a great time. And the winner gets a big hug and a kiss!
Challenge 3: Waiter Date Night
Pick a night to “wait” on your spouse. You get the drinks, the snacks, and their favorite game or movie. You can even dress up like a waiter to make it fun. How about giving them a back or foot message? Just make sure that you take turns reciprocating the favor sometime soon.
