August Date Night Challenge

Get Out of Your Comfort Zone

“When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.”—Psalm 94:19 (NIV)

There’s nothing more fun than watching someone do a death-defying stunt. As you watch the stunt unfold, you feel like you’re on pins and needles, your palms are sweating, and you’re praying that it all ends well. And when it’s all over you ask, “How did they do that? How did they overcome their fear and anxiety?” Just like the stunt person who has to overcome his/her fears, we must choose to do the same thing in our marriages.

So, what is it that scares you? Is it not being able to provide for your family? Maybe it’s not being attractive to your spouse anymore. Or perhaps it’s hearing those scary words from your doctor that your test came back irregular.

When you face your fears, you have two choices—you can either turn to your spouse for support or let fear hold you back. This month, the Married Couples Ministry would like to challenge you to get out of your comfort zone when it comes to facing your fears.  What would it look like to be that comfort and joy to each other during those fearful or anxious moments you face? Take the opportunity to pray and seek God’s comfort together. This will allow your beloved to know they’re not alone, and when they’re struggling that you’ll always have their back.

God is your joy and He will never forsake you! As you grow in facing your fears together, here are some date night ideas for you this month to get you outside of your comfort zone.

Date Night Ideas for August

Challenge 1: Eat Out of Your Comfort Zone
Are you like most couples who are creatures of habits when it comes to eating out? Why not challenge your taste buds to something different and eat something out of your comfort zone? Who knows, you may come to find out that you actually enjoy a new food. And if you don’t like what you tried, then you’ll have a fun time talking about it over a cheeseburger. Bon appetite!

Challenge 2: A Seat for Two
Do you like to bike ride? Why not rent a tandem bike for the afternoon? Talk about overcoming your fear of trusting another person. This will help you build each other up as you learn to peddle in unison. You’ll have to trust your partner to not let you fall. After you finish your bike ride, reward yourselves by getting your favorite dessert.

Challenge 3: On the Road Again
There’s nothing more adventurous than traveling. Why not take a mini road trip for the day. It doesn’t have to be very far, just a few hours away is all you need to have a fun getaway. Visit a place you’ve been wanting to explore. Map out the cafes, museums, hipster restaurants, or local beaches. Just spending the day together exploring new places will be something you’ll talk about for days.
